What is this about? (History)
This ritual marks the auspicious beginning of the wedding songs. The scattering of green gram (moong) is a symbol of prosperity and good fortune in Rajasthan.
Things to Buy / Requirements
- Aarti Thali (Bronze plate)
- 1.25 kg Moong (Green gram)
- Sieve (Chalni)
- Seven steel dinner plates
- Large bunch of Moli (sacred thread)
- Carpet (Jajam) for laying
- 4-5 meters of red Rubia blouse piece
- Scissors
- Small copper or steel pot (Loti)
- Roli, Rice, Jaggery, Chanwaledi
- Betel nut (Chhaliya Supari)
Step-by-Step Instructions

The night before, the bride/groom and the elder women of both families apply henna on their fingertips, thumbs, and a dot in the center of the palm.

During the day, prepare the Aarti Thali by drawing a Sankhiya (Swastika).

Tie Moli to the small pot, fill it with water, and place it in the thali along with Roli, rice, jaggery, Chanwaledi, and a betel nut wrapped in Moli.

The bride/groom scatters the moong while songs of the clan deities and Bada Binayak are sung.

The women present chew some of the moong as a blessing.

A portion of the red blouse piece is measured and distributed to the daughters-in-law of the family as an omen.

Jaggery and money covers are distributed, and congratulatory songs (Badhawa) are sung.
