Tani Bandhani and Birdbada

What is this about? (History)
A protective and auspicious ritual involving tying strings (Tani) across the courtyard and offering food (Birdbada) to birds for blessings.
Things to Buy / Requirements
- Jute string, thick Moli, or Moonj rope
- Mustard, salt, iron ring/nail, silver ring
- Bark of betel nut
- Red cloth for bundles
- 16 small wheat flour puris (with holes)
- Moth dal (ground into flour/mogar)
- Turmeric, coal, Chhaliya betel nut, silver ring for Birdbada setup
Step-by-Step Instructions

Tie the string diagonally across the four corners of the courtyard or room.

Make small red cloth bundles containing mustard, salt, iron ring, silver ring, and betel nut bark, and tie them where the strings cross.

Fry small puris with holes and tie four on each string (total 16 puris).

Set up a seating area under the Tani for the bride/groom.

For Birdbada: Grind moth dal and give it to virgin girls to feed the birds.

Create a setup on a square cloth with turmeric, moli, coal, salt, betel nut, and a silver ring. Everyone applies roli on the Birdbada.
